Life Transitions
A big one, I suppose, would be birth or death. On Easter Sunday, my husband’s mother passed away. My daughter Jasmine posted a picture of her at my wedding on my facebook page. She was 96 years old, very healthy until eight months before her passing and other than dementia stayed healthy until almost the very end. The part that fascinates me or challenges me is not the fact of her passing. It is the challenge to absorb that into my life and to react purposefully and to make sense of it.
The easiest reaction is to be sad and depressed and that is certainly healthy for a period of time. Then what? Well, I would like to use the emotion to encourage me to live my life more fully. To enjoy the sunshine and to take true joy in watching the plants in our garden, life, grow and evolve. Death is always a reminder of the fragility of life. It is easy to get caught up in the moment and to let the moments pass by. Before we know it, years have passed by. What fun it was to watch two and a half year old, Amalie, running around , enjoying every second, running up the steps and sitting in a flower bed. She wore the same type of dress her mother had worn when I knew her as a little girl.
It is a reminder to take good care of ourselves and to love those around us. Share, if you like, in the comment box below, how you have dealt with big life transitions. So right! Life is for living. Honoring those who have passed by enjoying the present maybe the greatest way to celebrate the Divine spark in us all.
This is quite beautifully written. I agree that it is so important not to get caught up in our lists all the time and to just simple enjoy life. Grandmama was a special person that impacted all of our lives.
